Lesson Learned:  We should try to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient every day.

Materials Needed: contact paper, marker, scissors, paper plate, felt

Bible Verse:
Colossians 3:12
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Talking Points: God is kind and patient with us and He wants us to act the same way towards others.  He wants us to be be kind to people every day. Being compassionate means caring for someone when they are sick or hurt. If someone gets hurt on the playground and you ask them if they are okay, that is compassion.  When you need help and you ask Mom and Dad to help you, you are being humble and telling them that you need help.  When you play with your little sister or pet your pet puppy, you need to be gentle to make sure that you don’t hurt them.  Being gentle can also mean that you use a kind voice to talk to people.  Being patient means that you wait without complaining or grumbling.  God wants us to be all of these things and we should pray for these things each and every day.

Questions:  What does it mean to be gentle/kind/compassionate/humble/patient?  Which one of these would you like God to help you to be more of today?

Activity:
Clothe Yourself
Cut out several pieces of felt in the shape of various pieces of clothing (shirt, pants, shoes, etc).  Write the names of several characteristics from the verse including compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience on to the felt pieces of clothes.

Wrap a piece of contact paper, sticky side up, around a paper plate. Then, let the child assemble the outfit by placing the felt pieces on the sticky paper plate.

When your child gets done, tell them which characteristics that you talked about that you see in your child.

Prayer:  Dear God, You are Holy, Compassionate, Gentle, and Kind with us. Please help us to be these things too. Amen!
