Lesson Learned: God loved us so much that He let Jesus die on the cross so that one day you and I could go to Heaven.

Materials Needed:  paper, scissors, pen

Bible Verse:
John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Talking Points:  We are about to celebrate a very special holiday called Easter.  Easter is a special day because it is the day that Jesus came back to life and then returned to His Father in Heaven 40 days later. God had planned for this day for a long, long time.  God had been planning for a long time that His Son would be born to the young woman named Mary and then teach the world about Him and Heaven, and then die on a cross to pay for all the sins that people do. Jesus had to die on a cross to save us.  God loved us so much that He let Jesus suffer on the cross so that one day you and I could go to Heaven. Imagine how much God loves us!

Questions: Does Jesus love you?  Does Jesus love your mom/dad/sibling/cousin/grandparents/etc?  Does Jesus want you to love Him?  How do we know Jesus loves us? How much does God love us?

Activity:
Trace the shape of a cross on a piece of paper. Cut out the cross or let older children do it themselves. As you do so, talk about how much Jesus loves the child and everyone they know.  Then, write the names of people the child loves on the cross, explaining that God sent Jesus to earth for every single one of these people.

Prayer:
Thank You, God, for sending Your Son to save us and show us how to go to Heaven.  I’m so glad that You love us SO much.  It’s amazing.  Please help me to remember how much You love me today, tomorrow, and always. Thank You for Jesus. Amen!
