Lesson Learned: Jesus is the key to Heaven.

Material Needed:  construction paper, scissor, glue

Bible Verse:
Matthew 16:17-18
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

John 14:6

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Talking Points:   Remember Jesus’ friend, Peter?  Peter was called “the rock” because Jesus knew that Peter would help build up the church (body of believers) to worship Jesus.  Jesus said He would give Him the keys to the kingdom of Heaven.  The key here is Jesus and His teachings.  Just like we need a house key to get into our house, we need to have Jesus in our lives to get to Heaven.  Jesus told Peter to tell others this truth and show them the key to Heaven.

Questions:  What was the key Peter was to share with others?  Where will this key take you?

Activity:
Fold a piece of paper in half.  Draw the outline of a key.  Cut the keys out.  Repeat, but this time use a different pattern for the keys.  Repeat one more time.

Glue one of each of the keys onto  a piece of paper.  Then have the child match up the keys with its mate.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, thank you for sharing the key to Heaven with us.  We are so grateful for Your Son Jesus and being able to learn more about Him. Amen!
