Lesson Learned: Jesus wants us to bring people to Him, like Andrew did.
Material Needed: brown paper lunch bag, marker
Bible Verse:
John 1:35-41
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Mark 3:13-19
13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Talking Points: When Jesus friends, His disciples, first met Him, they were very excited to learn that they had found the Messiah. They knew that Jesus was someone special and they couldn’t wait to tell their family and friends and about Him. Andrew was one of the first disciples to meet Jesus and he couldn’t wait to tell his brother, Peter. It makes Jesus happy when we tell others all about Him.
Questions: Why do you think Andrew was so excited to tell Peter, his brother, about Jesus? Can you think of someone you want to tell Jesus about today?
Activity:
Have the child decorate the paper bag like a puppet. Then, pretend to have the child tell the puppet all about Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Lord, lead us to someone to share all about You today. Give us the courage to tell everyone we meet about You! Amen!
