Lesson Learned:  God made the Sabbath a day of rest.
Materials Needed:  2 different colors of paper, scissors, box, blanket
Bible Verse :
Exodus 20:8-11
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Talking Points:  God made the whole world in 6 days and on the 7th day He rested.  He wants us to do the same thing. We should work hard 6 days a week and on the 7th day, we should rest.  This is the day we typically go to church and spend time worshiping.   This day is called the “Sabbath” and God wants us to rest on the Sabbath.
Questions:   Where do you like to rest when you’re tired from playing?   What do you do while you’re resting?
Activity:   Cut out 7 circles, six of the same color and one a different color.  Put the circles in a box.  Count the circles as you put them in the box. Then, let the child pull the circles, one by one, out of the box. When they pull the circle that is a different color, have them lay down on the blanket and “rest”.  They will have fun pulling the circles out of the box; you may want to put the circles back in and repeat.

Song to Sing:
To the tune of “Jingle Bells.”  (From DLKT website)

No other Gods, no idols
Don’t misuse God’s name
Keep the Sabbath holy
That’s God’s special day.  HEY!
Honor your mother and father
Don’t murder lust or steal
No false tales, don’t envy
This is God’s great deal.  HEY!
Prayer:  Dear Lord, You gave us the Sabbath as a day of rest. Help us to keep this day Holy and remember all Your commandments.
