Lesson Learned:  God wants us to love, respect, and obey our parents.
Materials Needed:  piece of paper, crayons, pen
Bible Verse :
Exodus 20:12
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Talking Points:  God is our Heavenly Father.  He takes care of us just like your mom and dad do.  One of His commandments, or rules, is to “honor” our parents.  We can show our parents honor by loving them, listening to them, and obeying them.
Questions:   Why is it important to obey your parents?   How do you know your parents love you? How do you show them that you love them?
Activity:   Make a love note with your child to give to Dad (or Mom).  Ask the child, “Why do you love Daddy?” Write her responses on a sheet of paper and then let your child decorate it with crayons.  You can also ask the child questions like, “What’s the funniest thing Daddy ever did?” or “What’s your favorite thing to do with Mommy?”  Let the child give the note to Dad or Mom.  (from The Preschooler’s Busy Book)

Song to Sing:

To the tune of “Jingle Bells.”  (From DLKT website)

No other Gods, no idols
Don’t misuse God’s name
Keep the Sabbath holy
That’s God’s special day.  HEY!
Honor your mother and father
Don’t murder lust or steal
No false tales, don’t envy
This is God’s great deal.  HEY!
Prayer:  Dear Lord, thank you for giving me my parents.  I love them and want to obey them, honor them, and listen to them.  Help me to keep Your commandment. Amen!
