Lesson Learned: Moses’ face shined very brightly after he spent time with God.

Materials Needed:  corn starch, water, bowl, spoon, measuring cup, balloon, marker, funnel

Bible Verse:
Exodus 34:29-35
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai. 33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the LORD’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.

Talking Points:  Moses was a very important man to God.   Moses spent much time with God and God gave Moses the Ten Commandments.  The Commandments are rules that God gives us that we need to follow. Moses wrote these rules down on 2 stone tablets and then returned to the people that he led, the Israelites.  After spending time with God, Moses whole face shined.  It was very, very bright and everyone could tell that Moses had been speaking to God.

Questions:  Why was Moses’ face shining so bright?  What did Moses write on the stone tablets?

Activity:
Let the child help you mix an equal amount of corn starch and water together in a large bowl (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of each).  Then, fix the balloon onto the small end of the funnel.  Spoon the mixture on to the funnel so the mixture goes down into the balloon.  When you are done, carefully remove the funnel and securely tie the balloon.  With the marker, draw a face on the balloon.  Let the child squeeze the balloon to make all sorts of funny faces.

Prayer: Praise be to our God and Father! Moses saw You and His whole face shined brightly.  Help us to shine with Your light, too! Amen!
