Lesson Learned:  God lights up our lives.
Materials Needed: empty toilet paper roll, construction paper, tape, scissors, markers or crayons
Bible Verse:
Psalm 18:28
28 You, LORD, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.

2 Samuel 22:29
You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light.
Talking Points:  When we have God in our lives, we do not have to walk in darkness. We can live bright, positive lives for God.
Questions:  What is it like when you are in your room and the lights are off? Can you see anything? Do you like being in the dark?  Would you rather be outside in the daylight or have the lights on?
Activity:
Use an empty toilet paper roll to make a candle.  Cut the construction paper to the same size the toilet paper roll and roll the construction paper around the roll. Tape it in place.  Using orange construction paper, cut out “flames” and tape them to the top of the candle.  Have the child help you tape the flames on the candle and let them decorate the candle. You could have the child hold up the candle and wave it around while you sing the song below.

Song to Sing:

Give Me Oil in My Lamp Keep Me Burning

Give me oil in my lamp keep me burning
Give me oil in my lamp, I pray,
Give my oil in my lamp, keep me burning,
Keep me burning ’till the end of day.

Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
Sing hosanna to the King of kings!
Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
Sing hosanna to the King!

Give me peace in my heart, keep me resting,
Give me peace in my heart, I pray.
Give me peace in my heart, keep me resting,
Keep me resting ’till the end of day.

Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
Sing hosanna to the King of kings!
Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
Sing hosanna to the King!

Prayer:  Father God, you are the King of Kings and you give us the strength we need to be a light for You always.  Keep us ready for Your return and keep our lamps burning bright for You! Amen!
