Lesson Learned:  Jesus heals a man’s hand.

Materials Needed: crayons, piece of paper, black marker

Bible Verse:
Luke 6:6-11
6 On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Talking Points:  Jesus was able to heal this man’s hand, which was all shriveled up.    The leaders of the church were mad at Jesus for healing his hand because they had made up lots of rules about what people could and could not do on the Sabbath.  (The Sabbath is the day that God told us that we should worship Him.)  They did not think Jesus should have healed his hand on the Sabbath. But Jesus points out that it’s more important to help someone on the Sabbath than anything.  Jesus miraculously healed this man’s hand to help show that He was God.

Questions:  Have you ever hurt your hand or other body?  What happened?  How did it feel?  Did you pray for healing?

Activity:  Using the black marker, trace the child’s hand on the piece of paper.  Have the child color each finger a different color with the crayons.

Prayer:  Thank You, Lord, for healing us and guiding us.  Amen!
