Lesson Learned:  Jesus wants us to follow Him.

Materials Needed:  Construction paper, scissors, pencil

Bible Verse:
Matthew 16:24
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

John 1:43
The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Talking Points:   Jesus tells His disciples (His friends and students) several times to follow Him.  He wanted them to live like He lived and to love like He did.  He wants us to do the same.  He wants us to trust in God and to love our neighbors as ourselves.  The only way to do that is by following Jesus.   We can follow Him by reading the Bible, learning His stories, and obeying the rules He talks about in the Bible.

Questions: What does it mean to follow someone?  Do you ever play follow the leader with your friends?  Do you think it will be easy or hard to follow Jesus today?

Activity:  Let the child help you trace out several of your footprints.  Stacking several sheets of paper at a time, cut the footprints out.  Then have the child go into another room;  lay the footprints down around the room, and then, invite the child out of the room and ask them to follow the footprints around the room.

Prayer:  Jesus, please help us to follow You each and every day.   We are so glad You’ve invited us to do so. Amen!
