Lesson Learned:  The disciples needed help so they could continue spreading the Word of Jesus.

Materials Needed:  blanket,  paper plates, fake or real food, plastic cups

Bible Verse:
Acts 6:1-7
1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”
5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Talking Points:  God wants us to spread the good news about Jesus.  If we are too busy doing our own thing, we may not have time to do talk with other people and share the story about Jesus with them.  In these verses, we see that Jesus’ disciples needed help so that they could continue sharing about Jesus.  There were some women who weren’t getting their fair share of the food and they needed someone to help wait on the tables to make sure that everyone was treated fairly.  God raised up seven men to help the disciples.  Sometimes we need help from others so that we can continue to do God’s will.  The disciples needed help so that they could continue to spread the Word of Jesus.

Questions:  What is something you need help from your mom or dad to do?  How does it make you feel when they help you?  Do you get frustrated when they can’t hep you right away?  What do you do then?

Activity:  Lay the blanket out on the ground and take turns serving food to one another.  Take turns taking each others orders and waiting on one another.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, we thank You for all the people You have put in our lives that help us.  When we need help, please bring the right people into our lives so we can always do Your will. Amen!
