Lesson Learned:  God is so big!

Materials Needed: bowl of water, ladle, sink

Bible Verse:
Isaiah 40:12 (NLT)
12 Who else has held the oceans in his hand?
Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers?
Who else knows the weight of the earth
or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?

Talking Points:  God is so, so big.  He is bigger than the tallest mountain, taller than the highest tree, and bigger than whole sky.  God is so big and so powerful that He made all those things!  He made everything in the world–including the ocean and everything in it. In fact, when God made the ocean He held it in His hands and then put it on the earth and decided exactly where it should go!

Questions:  Have you ever seen the ocean? Is the ocean big or small? Do you think you could hold the whole ocean in your hands? Did you know God can?

Activity: Standing by sink, fill up a bowl of water.  Ask the child to cup their hands over the sink and take the ladle and pour water in the child’s hands.  As you do so, talk about what happens to the water and how much they can hold in their hands.  Then, let them pour the water from the ladle into your hands.  We may not be able to hold much water in our hands, but God can hold the whole ocean!

Prayer:  Almighty Father and Lord, You are so big and so powerful.  You have held the oceans in Your hands.  Please protect us with those might hands and keep us safe today and always! Amen!
