Lesson Learned: Jesus wants you to share.

Materials Needed: toy your child is willing to share with someone less fortunate

Bible Verse:
Matthew 5:40-42
40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Talking Points:  Your mom and dad probably tell you to share all the time.  They tell you to share with your brothers/sisters, with your friends, or with your cousins.  They tell you this because it’s a kind thing to do but more importantly because Jesus tells us in the Bible that we need to share with others.  It makes Jesus happy when you share without having to be reminded by your mom or dad or teachers.  The next time someone asks you for something, remember that Jesus wants you to share.

Questions:  Why should you share your toys?  Does Jesus like it when you share? Have you ever had a time you didn’t want to share? Why was it hard to share?  How do you feel when your friends do/do not share with you?

Activity:  Go through the toy box with your child and choose a toy or two that your child wants to donate to someone less fortunate.  Drop off the toy at a local shelter, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.  Afterwards, talk to the child about how it they feel when they know they are sharing and helping others.

Prayer:  Dear God, You tell us to share.  Help us to remember that and give us hearts to share and obey Your words. Amen!
