Lesson Learned: God wants us to use our mouths to say nice things.
Materials Needed: scissors, paper plate, marker
Bible Verse:
James 3:9-12
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Talking Points: God wants us to use our mouths to praise Him and thank Him for the blessings He’s given us. He does not want us to use our mouths to talk bad about people or to say mean things. We should always be careful to watch our mouths and what we say to other people.
Questions: What does God want us to use our mouths for? Why do you sometimes say mean things? Can you say something nice to your mommy or daddy now?
Activity: Draw a face on a paper plate. Cut out the place were the mouth would go. Hold up the paper plate to your face and talk through the hole, taking turns saying nice things to one another.
Prayer: Dear Lord, You gave us mouths to praise You and honor You. Please guard our mouths and help us to only say nice things. Amen!
