Lesson Learned:  God uses all types of people to spread His Gospel.

Material Needed:  green and black construction paper, scissors, glue, paper plate, blue crayon

Bible Verse:
Matthew 10:1-4
1 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Mark 6:7-12
7 Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.

8 These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
12 They went out and preached that people should repent. 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.

Talking Points:  Jesus’ disciples learned many things from Him.  They saw Him perform many miracles, and they came to know and believe that Jesus was the Son of God.  Jesus’ friends were all very different.  We’ve seen that some were fisherman, one was a tax collector, and Simon the Zealot was a politician (a type of leader who gets people to do things they want them to do).  It didn’t matter what they did before; it only mattered that they loved Jesus now, and Jesus used His friends to tell others about Him.  He taught them how to preach to people and they were able to do many things in His name like healing sick people.  We see that Jesus uses all types of people to spread His Gospel.

Questions:    Were Jesus’ friends all the same?  Did they all love Jesus?  What kinds of things did Jesus teach them?

Activity:
Make a map of the world:
Cut out several people out of the black construction paper.  Let the child glue them on to your world map.  Explain to the child that God wants us to tell everyone, every where about His Gospel and about Jesus.Let the child color the paper plate with the blue crayon while you cut out the shapes of the continents out of the green construction paper.  Glue the continents to the paper plate when the child is done.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, You can use each and every one of us to share about Your Word.  Please give us the courage to share and do what You want us to do today. Amen!
