Lesson Learned: Jesus wants us to act out of love.
Materials Needed: hanger, tape, string or ribbon, construction paper, scissors, markers
Bible Verse:
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Talking Points: Jesus knows what our hearts look like. We may try to fool Him or our parents by saying or acting a certain way and feeling another, but we can’t fool God! Your parents may make you apologize to your friend for taking a friend’s toy or hurting your little brother or sister. You may say sorry but not mean it and then do it again in a few minutes. God knows that you are not acting in love, and this makes Him unhappy. God wants us to love others, to act in love, and to be loving. Love matters!
Questions: Have your parents ever told you to apologize to your sister or brother or friend when you didn’t want to? Did you do it anyway? Did you mean it? Why or why not? Does love matter to God?
Activity: Cut out several hearts out of the construction paper. Let the child decorate the hearts with markers. Tape the heats to one end of the ribbon. Then, tape the the other end of the ribbon to the hangar. You’ll be making a Love Mobile to remind the child to do everything out of love!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You love us more than we could ever imagine. Thank You for that. Please help us to love others like that. Amen!
