Lesson Learned:  God wants us to love Him more than anything else.
Materials Needed: cheerios, glue, outline of heart on piece of paper
Bible Verse :
Matthew 22:35-39

35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Talking Points:  Remember how we learned about Jesus going to Jerusalem to teach about God in the temple? One of the lessons He taught was how important it is to love God.  God tells us things we should and should not do the Bible. These are called commandments.  Jesus tells us that the most important thing we can do is to love Him with all our hearts.  We should love Him more than our toys and more than our moms and dads.   He says the second most important thing we can do is love our neighbor, which includes our family, friends, and others around us.
Questions:  Who are some of the people in your life that you love?  When you love someone, how do you treat them?  What makes you feel loved by your mom and dad?
Activity:
Draw an outline of a heart on piece of paper.  Give the child a bowl of cheerios and let them glue the cheerios inside the heart shape.
The cheerios ended up more in her mouth than the paper.

Song to Sing:

This is My Commandment
This is my commandment,
That you love one another
That your joy may be full;
This is my commandment,
That you love one another
That your joy may be full;
That your joy may be full,
That your joy may be full.
This is my commandment,
That you love one another
That your joy may be full.
Prayer:  Heavenly Father, fill us with love for You above all other things.  Teach us to love others the way You do.  We thank you for your commandments to show us how to live our lives. Amen!
