Lesson Learned: We should not have things in our house that do not honor God.
Materials Needed: none
Bible Verse:
2 Corinthians 7:1
1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
Talking Points: God does not want us to have scary things in our house or things that do not honor Him in our house. He wants us to live righteously, which means respecting Him and trying to keep good things in our room and in our home. We should be very careful what we watch and what we listen to. We may not want to read a story about witches or monsters because those books might not glorify God.
Questions: Can you think of something God might want you to get rid of in your room?
Activity: Go into your child’s room and pray with them to invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in their room. Then, spend some time cleaning out the room of anything that may not honor God. (We try to be very careful about what we bring into our house but even we were able to find a little dog dressed up in a vampire costume from Halloween that we needed to throw away. It’s amazing what can sneak in!) You may want to this one with yourself–examine the CD’s you listened to before you had kids or some of your pre-kid DVDs. I’d never let my kids watch or listen to some of the things we had in our collections.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please come into this room and house and have Your Holy Spirit dwell here always. Flood our home with Your light and love. Amen!
