Lesson Learned: We need Jesus to live.
Materials Needed: 2+ pieces of bread, bread knife or heart shaped cookie cutter
Bible Verse:
John 6:3:-35
30 So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Talking Points: We need food to eat every day. If we don’t eat, we are tired and grumpy and can’t survive. We need Jesus for the same reason. He is better for us than any food. He fills us with joy, gives us light and energy, and helps us get things done in the day. When we have Jesus in our hearts, He is the food that keeps us alive!
Questions: What is your favorite food to eat? Do you think having Jesus in your heart is even better than eating your favorite food?
Activity: Cut a heart shape out of the bread. Let the child try doing the same on another piece of bread and then enjoy eating it together as you talk about Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Lord, You are the Bread of Life, and we want You to fill us up even more than this bread. Amen.
