Lesson Learned: Jesus is our high priest and prays for us.
Materials Needed: hand template (see below), printer, black crayon, white paper, scissors, glue
Bible Verse:
Hebrews 5:5-7
5 In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”
6 And he says in another place,
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
Hebrews 4:14
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
Talking Points: A priest, or preacher, is someone who leads a church and teaches us about God. They help take care of people at church and pray for them. A long time ago, Jewish people had high priests and these were the most important priests. Jesus is our high priest; He is the most important priest and He prays for us and takes care of us.
Questions: Do you know the name of the priest at your church? Did you know Jesus prays for you? What would you like him to pray for you for today?
Activity:
Step 1: Cut out the silhouette of these praying hands (taken from DLTK kids):

Step 2: Let the child color the hands black with a crayon and then help the child cut out the silhouette (you may have to do it for younger children). Glue the hands onto a white piece of paper.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for everything You do for us. We know that Jesus prays for us and that You listen to Him. Thank You for caring for us so much. Hear our prayers today for ( fill in the blank for something you have been praying for.)
