Lesson Learned:  Jesus tells us to build our lives according to His ways and purposes.
Materials Needed: several blankets and chairs
Bible Verse:
Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Talking Points:  One man built his house on a strong, sturdy rock.  The other man built his house on something weak.  When the wind started to blow, the strong house remained standing but the weak house blew right over.  When we live like Jesus tells us to, we are like a strong house and will make the right choices.  If we don’t live like Jesus tells us to, we are weak and easily tricked by others to do the wrong things.
Questions: Is it better to build your house on a rock or on sand?  Why is it better to build a house on a rock?

Activity:

Activity 1:
Use the blankets to build a fort.  If you want, spend some time in the fort with the child, singing songs or reading stories.

Activity 2:
Sing this song with the child:
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
And the rain came a-tumbling down
Oh, the rain came down
And the floods came up
The rain came down
And the floods came up
The rain came down
And the floods came up
And the house on the rock stood firm.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
And the rain came tumbling down
Oh, the rain came down
And the floods came up
The rain came down
And the floods came up
The rain came down
And the floods came up
And the house on the sand went SPLAT!
So, build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
And the blessings will come down
Oh, the blessings come down
As your prayers go up
The blessings come down
As your prayers go up
The blessings come down
As your prayer go up

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, You are so great.  We want to build our lives according to your will.  Please help us to do so! Amen.
