Lesson Learned:  God tells us not to steal.
Materials Needed: piece of candy, a cookie, or something else your child really likes
Bible Verse :
Exodus 20:15
 15 “You shall not steal.”
Talking Points: One of God’s rules is that we shouldn’t steal.  Stealing means taking something without asking for it.  If your friend has a toy and you want to play with it, you can’t just grab it from him or her.  That is like stealing.  You need to ask your friend if you can play with their toy.  They may say yes, and then you can wait your turn to play with it.  If they say no, you have to go find something else to play with.
Questions:   Have any of your friends ever taken your toy without asking? How did that make you feel?  If someone says “no” when you ask them to play with their toy, what should you do?

Activity:   Set out one cookie or piece of candy in front of you.  The child will probably try to grab it and say they want some to.  Explain to them that they can’t just take it; they need to ask you if they can have some.   Then you can split the cookie and enjoy sharing it.

Song to Sing:
To the tune of “Jingle Bells.”  (From DLKT website)

No other Gods, no idols
Don’t misuse God’s name
Keep the Sabbath holy
That’s God’s special day.  HEY!
Honor your mother and father
Don’t murder lust or steal
No false tales, don’t envy
This is God’s great deal.  HEY!
Prayer:  Dear Lord, we do not want to steal.  Please help to remind us that we should always ask for things before we take them. Amen!
