Lesson Learned: Jesus tells us how to pray.
Materials Needed: bottom half of a cereal box, construction paper, glue, stickers or crayons
Bible Verse:
Matthew 6:9-13
Matthew 6:9-13
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
Talking Points: When we pray, we need to recognize who we are praying to, God. We need to thank Him for the things He has given us, like food (our daily bread). We need to tell Him we are sorry for doing wrong things and ask Him for forgiveness. He will forgive us and protect us when we do.
Questions: Why do we pray? Who/what should we pray for today?
Activity:
Make a prayer box or basket to hold your kids’ prayers.
Step 1: Cut a cereal box in half.
Step 2: Cover the bottom half of the box with construction paper.
Step 3: Have the child decorate it.
Step 4: Using an index card, write down your child’s prayer and put it into the box. Do the same for your own prayer.
Step 5: Use the box to hold your prayers and occasionally take one out to see if it’s been answered.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for listening to us and answering our prayers. Amen!
