Lesson Learned: Your mom and dad discipline you because they love you.
Materials Needed: kitchen timer
Bible Verse:
Hebrews 12:10-11
10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Talking Points: Sometimes you get in trouble when you don’t listen to your mom and dad. When they ask you to do something, like pick up your toys, and you don’t do it, they may take that toy away. When you are mean to your little brother or sister, your parents may send you to timeout. Your parents do this because they love you, and God has told them in the Bible that they must discipline you to help you become a good little boy or girl.
Questions: When was the last time you got in trouble? What for? Did you get sent to time out? How did it make you feel to go to timeout? Are you going to do that thing again?
Activity: Let the child help you set the kitchen time like you do when they have a time out. They will love spinning it around or pushing the buttons (depending on what type of time you have!)
Prayer: Dear God, please help me not to disobey my parents. You want us to listen to them. Help me to listen! When I obey them, I obey You. Amen!
