Lesson Learned: When you obey your parents, it pleases God.

Materials Needed: none

Bible Verse:
Colossians 3:20
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

Exodus 20:12
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

Talking Points: God wants you to love your mom and dad.  He wants you to listen to them and to obey them.  When they ask you to do something, He wants you to do what they ask.  When they ask you to pick up your toys, you should pick them up. When they tell you to look before crossing the street, you need to listen to you.  God gave you your parents so that they could help take care of you and keep you safe.  When you listen to your parents, it pleases God.

Questions:  Do you always listen to your mom and dad? Why is hard to obey sometimes? How does it make God feel when you obey?

Activity:
Mom Says (like Simon Says)
Stand in a room with plenty of space.  Play a game of “Mom Says” (just like Simon Says but say Mom Says instead).  The child must listen to what you say. If Mom Says “Mom says put your hands on your head”, the child should put their hands on their head. If Mom does not say “Mom says” first, then the child should not put their hands on their head.

Prayer:  Dear Father, sometimes it is hard to obey my mom and dad.  Please help me to have ears to listen and heart to obey.  Thank You for helping us listen and obey! Amen!
