Lesson Learned: There are giants in the Bible. (God’s people come in all sizes!)
Materials Needed: Pair of adult shoes
Bible Verse:
Deuteronomy 3:11
11 (Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaites. His bed was decorated with iron and was more than nine cubits long and four cubits wide. It is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites.)
Explain to the child that this about 14 feet long and 6 feet wide. They are only about 3 or 4 feet tall….what a difference!
Numbers 13:33
33 We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
1 Samuel 17:4
4 A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. 5 He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; 6 on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. 7 His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him.
Talking Points:
God created people of all different sizes, shapes, and colors. He created very short people and very tall people. He created people with blonde hair and he created people with black hair. He created people with white skin and He created people with black skin. In these passages we read about some of the largest people God created; they are so big they are sometimes called giants.
Questions: Do you know how tall you are? Who is the tallest person you know? Did God make that person tall?
Activity: Let the child walk around in a pair of your shoes. Hopefully, they’ll have as much fun as my kid did sporting dad’s flip-flops.
Prayer: Dear God, we are so glad that You made each person special and unique. Thank You for making me! Amen!
