Lesson Learned: God wants us to share.
Materials Needed: handful of coins, piggy bank
Bible Verse:
Luke 21:1-4
1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Talking Points: God gives us everything that we have. The woman in this story wanted to give all her money back to God. She did this even though she knew it was all she had. God wants us to share this way too. He doesn’t want us to be greedy and only give things to people when we are done with them. If you are playing with a toy and your brother or sister or friend wants to see it, you should share it with them, even if you are not done playing with it. This makes God happy when we give with a generous heart.
Questions: Do you have a favorite toy that it is hard for you to share? Why is it hard to share sometimes? Can you pray now that God will make it easier for you to share your toys?
Activity:
The old woman was putting money into the offering plate (like the church’s piggy bank) at the church. Put the money into the piggy bank just like she was doing.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for blessing us with so many things. Help us to share all our things with generous hearts. We do not want to be selfish or greedy. Thank You for Your help in changing my heart! Amen!
