Lesson Learned:  God stopped the sun and the moon from moving for one day.

Materials Needed:  yellow marker, paper

Bible Verse:
Joshua 10:12-14
12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon. ”
13 So the sun stood still,
    and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!

Talking Points:  Joshua was the leader of God’s army and Joshua loved and followed God’s directions in everything, including battle.  Joshua and his army were facing a very difficult battle, but God was on their side. Joshua prayed for God’s help, and God made the sun and moon stand still for an entire day so that Joshua’s men would not have to fight in darkness. Only God could do that!

Questions:  Who stopped the sun and moon? For how long?  What kinds of things do you do when the sun is up? What kinds of things do you do when the moon comes up?

Activity:  Have fun drawing a sun on a piece of paper. Then, have the child stand with both hands holding the sun.  Have them make a big circle with their arms, while holding the sun, and when you say stop, they have to stop moving the sun.  When you say go, they continue making the circle.  Repeat this activity a few times.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, only You could stop the sun and moon for an entire day.  We are so in awe of Your power and so thankful that You love us.  Amen!
