Lesson Learned:  God talks to Moses from a burning bush.

Materials Needed: match, candle

Bible Verse:
Exodus 3:1-5
1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

Talking Points:  God had a chosen person, named Moses, that He wanted to lead His people.  He talked to Moses from a burning bush and told him this.  The amazing thing about this bush is that is never burned up.  Usually trees, bushes, and sometimes whole forests are burnt up when there is a fire in one of them.  God spoke to Moses through the burning bush and the bush never burned.

Questions:  Have you ever seen a campfire? What did you burn in the fire? What happened to the logs?  Who talked to Moses from the burning bush that he saw?  What did he tell Moses to do?

Activity:  Light the candle with the child (remind them never to play with matches or lighters!).  Explain to them how fire is hot and burns things, like the candle. When Moses saw the bush burning, it never burned up because God was in it. Let the child blow out the candle.

Prayer:  Dear God, we love hearing Your amazing stories about Your people and Your miracles. Thank You for giving us the Bible so we can learn all about Moses and other people that followed You. Amen.
