Lesson Learned:  Jesus taught us to help those in need.

Materials Needed: none

Bible Verse:
1 John 3:17-18
17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Luke 6:38
38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.

Talking Points:  There are many people in the world who don’t have the things they need like shoes or coats or even enough food to eat everyday.  Jesus tells us that we need to help people out when we see someone in need. Christmas is a great time to share with other people that may not have everything they need.  Today we’re going to help someone out who needs help!

Questions:  Can you think of someone who might need help? What do they need? What are some ways you can help people?  (don’t forget to mention that prayer always helps people too!)

Activity:   Choose from any of the following activities to help show the child how God calls us to help those less fortunate:
* Gather some coins and drop them in a local salvation army bell ringer’s drum
* Go through some toys/clothes of the child’s and donate them
* Choose a tag off a gift tree from church or at the mall and let the child help pick out a gift for the child on the tag
* Make a special card for an elderly neighbor who lives alone
(Say a special prayer for each person/group as you do these activities)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, You teach us to love and You sent Your Son at Christmas time to teach us all about how we should live and how we should love our neighbor.  Thank You for loving us. Please help us to love all those we see in need. Amen!
