Lesson Learned: God wants us to love one another.

Materials Needed: coffee filter (we used the one from yesterday after it dried since it was a nice color), scissors, markers, ribbon

Bible Verse:
John 13:34
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Talking Points:  Jesus tells us that the most important thing we can do is to love one another.  Today is Valentine’s Day and it’s a special day to tell someone that you care for them and that you love them. When you love someone, you might help them do something like put away the groceries, or you might share your cookie with your sister.  Being loving means being kind and patience and caring toward that person. Today is a great today to tell someone you love them, but really, you should act in love every day toward everyone!

Questions: Who do you love?  How can you show love to that person?  Why do you think God wants us to love other people?

Activity:
Draw the shape of a heart on the coffee filter and let the child help you cut it out.  Decorate the heart for a fun Valentine to share with someone.  Cut slits on the top of the heart and lace the ribbon through.  You can then hang the Valentine up or tie the ribbon in a knot and where it like a necklace.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, help us to show love to everyone we meet today and everyday! Amen!
