Lesson Learned:  Abraham has a son named Isaac.

Materials Needed: none

Bible Verse:
Genesis 21:1-7
1 Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. 3 Abraham gave the name Isaac[a] to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
6 Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” 7 And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

Talking Points:  God had promised Abraham that Abraham would have many, many children.  Abraham was very old and he laughed when God said this.  But God always keeps His promises and He can do anything.  Sarah, Abraham’s wife, had their first child when they were very old. Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old.  They both laughed that God had done this so they named their son Isaac. Isaac means “He laughs.”

Questions:  What was Abraham’s son’s name? What does Isaac mean?  Do you know what your name means/what do you think your name means?

Activity:  Lay on the floor with your child and take turns giggling.  They will love laughing with you!  You may consider capturing some of their giggles on a video tape to look at when the kids are older.

Prayer:  Holy Lord, thank You for giving us laughter.  We love to laugh. Amen!
