God’s words are powerful. His message is life giving. Even the youngest child can be taught that God is the maker of all things and that He loves them. As your kids grow, you can share the awesome stories of God’s miracles like God Giving Us Life, Jesus Feeding the 5,000, and Jesus Walking on Water.

God Tells Us To Pray Continually

In today’s lesson, kids will learn all about the power of prayer.

Lesson Learned

God tells us to pray for all things, all the time.  We should pray without ever stopping.

Materials Needed

pictures of various people, objects, animals from magazines, books, or online

Bible Verse

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16Be joyful always; 17pray continually; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Talking Points

God tells us to pray continually.  He wants us to always be thinking of Him and to be willing to move whenever the Spirit tells us to. We should ask God for guidance and help in everything that we do.

Questions

  • What does continually mean?
  • Why do you think God wants us to pray all the time?

Activity 1

Sing this Song:

This is the song that never ends.

Yes, it goes on and on my friends.

Some people started singing it not knowing what it was

And they’ll continue singing it forever just because……

This is the song that never ends…

REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT

Keep singing the song until the kids have an understanding of what “without ceasing” means.

Activity 2

Show pictures of the various items that you have. Ask the child, should you pray for your pet? Should you pray for Grandma? Should you pray about food?  Help the kids realize that they should pray and thank God for all things.

Prayer

Father, please guide my ways in all things.  Lay your words in my heart, and on my mind so that the first things I think about are your ways and your teachings from scripture.  Lead me to pray continually, without ceasing. Amen.
