Lesson Learned: God made summer, winter, fall, and spring.
Materials Needed: 2 pieces of wax paper (approximately 12 in x 12 in)
Bible Verse:
Genesis 1:14
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
Genesis 8:22
22 “As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.”
Acts 14:17
17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”
Talking Points: Explain to your child how God made different seasons. In the summer, it is hot and we do things like to swimming and bike riding. In the winter, it is cold and we do things like sledding and ice skating. God also made fall and spring. Spring is when flowers bloom and little baby animals are born. Fall is when the leaves turn yellow and red and start to fall off the trees. There are great things about every season.
Questions: What is your favorite thing to do in the summer/winter? Is it hot or cold in the summer? What kind of clothes do you wear in the summer? What kind of clothes do you wear in the winter? Who made winter and summer (the seasons)?
Activity:
On carpet, let the child “ice skate” around the house by putting a piece of wax paper under each foot. They will have fun doing this “winter” activity inside.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for making the seasons. We love all the different things we get to do at different times of the year and we know you have a purpose for every season. Help us to always enjoy all the beauty of each season. Amen!
