Lesson Learned:  God gives us everything we need; we should not covet.

Materials Needed:  paper, marker, glue, dry macaroni noodles

Bible Verse:
Exodus 20:17
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Talking Points:  Sometimes your neighbor (your neighbor is anybody you know) might have something you want.  Your friend might be playing with a toy you like or your sister might be eating a lollipop and you want some.  When you want something you don’t have, this is called coveting.  We shouldn’t covet because God tells us not to.  God gives us what we need, when we need it, and sometimes we have to wait to play with a toy or to eat a treat.

Questions:  Have you ever wanted had to wait for something?  Was it hard?  Did you know you can pray to God to ask Him to help you when you are having a hard time following any of His rules?

Activity:   Sometimes the best way to forget about the things we don’t have is to remember all the blessings we do have. Help the child create a “thank you list” of all the things they are grateful for today. Let the child decorate the border with macaroni noodles and then hang it up on the refrigerator as a reminder for the whole family about all the blessings you have in your life.

Song to Sing:

To the tune of “Jingle Bells.”  (From DLKT website)

No other Gods, no idols
Don’t misuse God’s name
Keep the Sabbath holy
That’s God’s special day.  HEY!
Honor your mother and father
Don’t murder lust or steal
No false tales, don’t envy
This is God’s great deal.  HEY!
Prayer:  Dear God, You give us everything we need.  Your last commandment tells us not to covet; please help us to be content with what we have, knowing that You provide everything we need. Amen!
