Lesson Learned: Jesus wants us to stop sinning.
Materials Needed: pie plate, ¼ cup of salt
Bible Verse:
John 8:5-11
John 8:5-11
5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
Talking Points: The woman in this story had done something she shouldn’t have done. These men were going to punish her for doing it. Jesus came to her side and asked the men if they really thought they should punish her. They all realized they were just as guilty as her. They then left and Jesus told the woman to stop sinning.
Questions: Have you done anything today that you shouldn’t have done? Have you asked for forgiveness for it?
Activity:
While Jesus waited for the people to realize what they are doing, He drew in the dirt. Cover the bottom of the pie plate with the salt and let the child draw shapes, letters, etc. just like Jesus did in the dirt.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Help us to recognize our own sins and help us not to do them anymore. Amen!
