Lesson Learned: God watches over us all the time.
Materials Needed: old pillow case, markers, scissors
Bible Verse:
Psalm 121:1-8
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Talking Points: God watches over us and protects us. He is our Heavenly Father and He wants the best for us. You may not know it, but your parents might come in and check on you while you are sleeping at night to make sure you are sleeping well and that you are safe. They watch over you to make sure that you don’t get hurt at the playground and they try to keep you safe. God does this, too. In fact, He never even goes to sleep because He watches over us all the time.
Questions: Are you glad you have God watching over you? When you’re scared or frightened, did you know you can pray to God to watch over you and help you not be scared?
Activity: With the scissors, cut a semi-circle out of the end of a pillowcase. Cut the hole so it is big enough for the child to put his or her head through. Cut the sides of the pillowcase, about 3 inches from the top. Let the child decorate the pillow with markers. Then, let the child wear their new garment. Explain to the child that God is like this pillowcase; surrounding us, going wherever we go, and keeping us safe.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we praise You and thank You for keeping us safe. Guard us against all evil, physical and emotional harm, and keep us safe all the days of our lives. Amen!
