5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
Talking Points: Can you show me your tongue? Our tongue may be a small part of our body, but it is very, very powerful. Our tongue helps us talk and say things all day long. We can use our tongue to say nice things or we can use our tongue to say mean things. When we say nice things, it makes people feel good and confident. When we use our tongues to say bad things, it can make people feel bad and cry. We must be careful what we say because the words we speak are very powerful.
Questions: Do you think God wants us to use our tongues to say nice things or mean things? Is there someone you’ve said something mean to that you need to say you are sorry? Why do you think God wants you to say nice things to people?
Activity: Draw an outline of a person. Cut the outline out and tape it onto the straw. Poke the person through the empty roll. Practice with the child saying nice things. Whenever the child says something nice, poke the person out of the toilet paper roll (like a jack-n-box). When they something unkind, hide the person back in the roll.
Prayer: Dear God, we thank You for giving us tongues to talk with and tell each other we love each other. Help us to guard our tongues and only use it to praise and glorify You. Amen!
