Lesson Learned: Jesus returns to Heaven to be with His Father.
Materials Needed: helium balloon
Bible Verse:
Luke 24:50-53
50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
Mark 16:19
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.
Acts 1:9-11
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Talking Points: We celebrate Easter because Jesus died on the cross for our sins and then was resurrected and made alive by God. Because this happened, we all have a chance to go to Heaven if we believe and trust in Jesus. After Jesus’ resurrection, He returned to His friends and many other people to show them that He had risen from the dead, just as He had promised He would and to prove that He was the Son of God and to tell them about the kingdom of God. One day as they listened to Him, He was taken up to Heaven right before there very eyes until finally He was hidden by a cloud. He was returning to Heaven to be with His Father.
Questions: Where was Jesus going? How do you think Jesus’ disciples felt as they watched Him be taken up into the sky? How do you think you would feel?

Activity: Do today’s devotional outside. Hold the helium balloon while you read the verses from the Bible and when you read about Jesus’ ascension, let the child release the balloon and watch it rise into the sky until you can’t see it anymore. Explain that the disciples watched Jesus rise into the sky in a similar manner.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to save us from our sin. Please help us keep our eyes always focused on You. We look forward to the day we see You in Heaven with Your Father. Amen!
