Lesson Learned: God knew Jesus’ birthday long before Jesus was born.
Materials Needed: paper plate, marker
Bible Verse:
Isaiah 11:1
1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
Isaiah 9:6
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
John 8:58
58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
Talking Points: Do you know what a family tree is? A family tree describes who your parents are, who your grandparents, who your great-grandparents, etc. It includes all the people in your family for as far back as you can remember. God knew that Jesus would be born long, long before Mary ever had a baby in her belly or before she was even alive. God knew who Jesus’ parents, grandparents, great-great great grandparents would be before the world even began and it was all part of His marvelous plan.
Questions: Do you know the names of your grandparents? What about your aunts, uncles, cousins? Do you like close to your relatives or far away? Who is the oldest relative you know?
Activity: Draw a “family tree” on the paper plate, helping your child remember who is related to who.
If you have time, you may even want to print out pictures of your family members beforehand to paste them on to the tree as you talk about them.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for planning our family so perfectly. Amen!
