Lesson Learned: We are a family in Christ.
Materials Needed: construction paper, glue, scissors, marker
Bible Verse:
Mark 3:31-35
31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
Talking Points: When Jesus came to earth, He had a mother named Mary and several siblings. However, Jesus tells His friends that all people who love God and do God’s will are His brothers and sisters. We are part of Jesus’ family when we live our lives for Him and obey His commands! People that follow God are called your Christian brothers and sisters.
Questions: Can you name some people that love God? What is the name of your Sunday school teacher? Is she your sister in Christ? Do you love God? Are you part of God’s family?
Activity: Cut out several circles out of construction. Working with the child, glue them in a circle on a piece of paper. Then, help the child identify some of the names of the people they know that love Jesus and write those people’s names on the circles.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we are so grateful to be part of Your loving family. Give us the courage to invite others to Your family! Amen!
