Lesson Learned: God’s love lasts forever.
Materials Needed: green construction paper, scissors, stapler, marker
Bible Verses:
1 Peter 1:
23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24For,
“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.
Talking Points: Forever is a long, long time. Forever means it never, ever ends. Can you even imagine? God’s love for us never, ever ends. It keeps going and going and going. Can you think of anything that never, ever ends? Just like the grass and the flowers, most things wither and go away. When it gets cold outside, the flowers wilt and the grass turns yellow. But God’s love never wilts or turns yellow. It lasts forever!
Questions: Can you think of anything that lasts forever? Why do you think the grass turns yellow and the flowers wilt when it gets cold outside?
Activity:
(Adapted from the book, “Crafts to Celebrate God’s Creation” by Kathy Ross)
Step 1: Take a strip of green construction paper that is wide enough to fit around the child’s head (about 8 inches wide). Fold the strip in half (so it is now 4 inches wide).
Step 2: Show the child how to cut fringe along the open end of the strip of paper and stop before getting to the fold. Let the child finish cutting the fringe.
Step 3: Write “God’s Love Endures Forever” on the strip of paper.
Step 4: Staple the ends of the strip together to make a headband and let the child wear it.
Prayer: God, Thank You for loving us forever. Forever is longer than we can even imagine. You are so great and wonderful. Amen!
